This is the way I've sort of, envisioned, how tyranitar would look if it were somewhere between the cartoon style and pure realistic. I would have liked to make his hide much more rocky in quality using just value. I had a hard time deciding how to resolve the background and eventually decided to take a crack at a more realistic rocky/mountainous area. I think I would have had a easier time if i didn't go the route of outlining Tyranitar. Oh well, maybe I will have better luck with my next one.

EDIT:

Went back and dropped in more visible shadows for Tyranitar, and gave the unfortunate trainer some shadow love as well. I also changed all the black outline to a dark blue since that black was too heavy and was making the subjects feel really disconnected.
